UMP Received RM250 Thousand Zakat to Help Lessen The Burden of Students

Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP) received zakat contribution of RM150 thousand from Etiqa Takaful Berhad and RM100 thousand from Malaysia Building Society Berhad (MBSB) in a handover ceremony held on 12 September 2014 at the UMP Gambang Campus.

The donation is part of corporate social responsibility for the agencies to help students that have financial problems in their studies.

Zakat that has been contributed allows welfare and basic need of students to be monitored thoroughly.

Student Affairs and Alumni Department (Saffad) and the Islamic Center of Human Development (LEAD) needs to be more sensitive to the problems faced by students, particularly cases related to poverty, loss of income and broken family since they usually did not share and embarrass to come forward asking for help.

This situation need to be assisted and, if left unsolved, will give negative impact on students' academic achievement levels and could cause other serious problems to the students.
